Question My mother and I bought a home in Oregon. She is on social security disability. We are now in CA due to a need to be near medical specialists for her health. If I sell the home in Oregon how will this effect her social security. The home taxes are listed under my social security number. Does that make a difference? Does that mean I am considered the sole owner of the home?
Answer If you bought the property with your mother, does that mean the title of the house is in BOTH of your names? Or since the taxes are in your name is the title in YOUR name? If it is in your name, your mother need not be concerned about her social security, Melanie. To make sure, I recommend you should consult with a good local ESTATE attorney. That person specializes in estate taxes and will make sure you do it right. Because the property is in a different state than where you live now, all the more reason why you should see that attorney. I do wish you well. I do wish you well.
With more than 41 years as a real estate broker, I can solve most any problem presented. If I can`t, I do my research. Problems with mortgages, trust deeds, foreclosures, odd ways of conveying titles. Most any good Realtor can answer questions satisfactorily, but I answer questions that most cannot.
