Buying or Selling a Home/Closing date

Question
i signed a purchase agreement that had a March 14 closing date(the buyers wanted) I have 72 days occupancy after closing. I told my realtor that it would be more economical for me to close in May and give keys at closing but he did not change date. Is there any way I can extend the closing date? Thanks

Answer
All parties to the agreement must sign any changes. If the buyer will not accept that change of closing, then there is nothing you can do at this time unless you can talk them into it. The Realtor is not a party to the agreement. He/she is merely the agent to facilitate the transaction. You may instruct the Realtor to do as you request. If the buyer refuses to accept your request, you may ask to talk to the buyer and hope all goes well. I do wish you well.
