Question
I am in the process of inheriting a home and the home was previous inherited by my mom. The deed has not been transferred to any new owner name since approximately the early 1900's. Is this the way a deed is handled? My concern is that if I choose to sel this home that was left to my dad, through his fathers will, then to my mom due to my dad's passing, then me through a my mom's will am I going to have a problem?

Answer
Dear Vita,

Thank you for your question.

To satisfy your concerns you should speak to an attorney or property title company to do a title search to assure you that there are no liens against the property and to determine the current recorded owner. Bring all your paperwork.

Then have the attorney transfer title to you with a quitclaim deed.

Hope this works out for you.

For instance: in a house, why do some doors open in and some doors open out?
