Buying or Selling a Home/Landscaping Value

Question
How much value does landscaping add to the value of a home?
Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Susan,

Landscaping will certainly beautify property and add curb appeal to a home and be an invitation to prospective buyers to also see the inside, but excessive landscaping will not necessarily add more value.

If ALL homes in a particular subdivision, say, had extremely nice landscaping and were otherwise equal – and one property in the subdivision had virtually no landscaping – then in an instance like that, the lack of landscaping would certainly detract “something” in value.

Likewise, if one property in a subdivision had excessive landscaping (even though tastefully-done) which were over-and-above the general landscaping of all other similar homes in the same subdivision, then the excess would not generally add any considerable value.

I hope the above answers your question.
