Buying or Selling a Home/Lawyer missed closing date

Question
Hi there,
My closing date has come and gone on a new house that I purchased - My lawyer missed the closing date and I was unable to pick up my keys in time before the builder's lawyers office closed.  To your knowledge, is there anything I can do in this situation with regards to getting some compensation from my lawyer?

Answer
This is really not a real estate question, Claudia, however, if he has actually cost you money, then it would seem reasonable that he should compensate you for whatever it has cost you because it did not close when it was supposed to. So, I would ask him how much it has cost you because he was not able to get you the keys. And see if he will refund you that extra cost, if it indeed there was any.

I do wish you well.

With more than 41 years as a real estate broker, I can solve most any problem presented. If I can`t, I do my research. Problems with mortgages, trust deeds, foreclosures, odd ways of conveying titles. Most any good Realtor can answer questions satisfactorily, but I answer questions that most cannot.
