Buying or Selling a Home/Mobile Home Disposal
Expert: Michael McClure - 9/5/2007
QuestionQUESTION: Hi, my Aunt is moving to a retirement home and leaving a 1978 double-wide mobile home behind. It's in marginal shape and needs new plumbing, electrical and sub-flooring. It might cost more to renovate it then the sales price. Do I fix it up? Is there a salvage company who would buy it as is?
ANSWER: Gary....did you get my response? System shows that it wasn't sent...let me know...."~ M

QUESTION: No I didn't. I had to go on the web site to see this response. I did get an email the my initial question had been posted.
ANSWER: Hey G...wrote a long response, but must have had a senior moment, and hit delete!
First try to sell "as is"...making sure that all safety and health issues are complied with.
Not worth much to anyone to pull it off, they usually charge us!
Last resort, if it's a decent park, low space rent....go to the managment of the park....ask who they have used for new homes, and try to get some $$ so they will remove home, pay you for the space, and install a new home. We do this all the time!
Lrt me know if you need more...."~ M

QUESTION: Good answers. Thanks. I'm intrigued, if I read your last answer correct, that the park management will pay to remove and install a new home, and pay me for the space? Why would they pay me for the space? Why would they pay to remove/install? What if I just walk away from the whole situation since my Aunt is penniless and can't be sued?
AnswerHi Gary....I meant to ask them for a reference.
The park won't do the work, but a mobile home company would, if it's a desirable location...and the space rent is right. Spaces are at a premium where I am, and sometimes we pay "big bucks"! The space rent will have to stay paid up, or the park can take it.
Of course you can walk, but why not try to help her get some $$....let her buy some new clothes, put her on a cruise ship.
