Buying or Selling a Home/agents' schedules

Question
Hi. I was wondering how do agents usually work out their schedules? I mean, don't they have to sort of be "on call" in case someone wants to go look at a property right away? Also, how does vacation time work?

Answer
Hello Danielle;
Agents do what they want to do. There are some larger companies that may require agents to take floor time, but other than that you are on your own.  If you take a vacation you arrange for someone to cover for you while you are away.  I have found that with cell phones, we often don't need to have too much help but in the event someone does want to see a home, just arrange for someone to be on call in your absence.  Then you can do the same for them when they want to take some time off.  Often we work out paying a small referral fee or a set fee to the assisting agent if this happens.  Vacation time is up to you.  You can take as many weeks as you want but if you are gone too long you will not be very successful as an agent.  One finds that the time spent on the job will reap the highest rewards.

Experience

Anyone who is in this business and who dedicates oneself to professionalism has continued to take classes and along with it,additional credentials, awards and honors. I can list a host of them, but my greatest accomplishments happen to be those of getting first time buyers (who didn't think they could afford to buy a home)into a home of their dreams. The look on their faces when I hand over the keys is worth all of the hard work.
