Question
Hi, I was interested in changing professions and becoming a realtor.  Could you let me know some guidelines aobut entering the profession.  Can I just go register for a course at a community college and then get my license and then apply for a job with a firm?  Thanks so much.  Jo

Answer
Hi Jo,

Thanks for your question.

If you woulod like to enter the real estate sales profession you need to start by meeting with some of the local real estate office managers to find a location and manager that match your preferences.
Once you have done that the office manager/broker will agree to sponsor you for the state licensing test and hold your license if you pass.  I don't know all the states, but I am sure you need to take a sales agent course either at the local board of Realtors office or community college.  After you complete the course and pass the test your license will be sent to your sponsoring broker and you can begin work.

Good luck in your new career.

I am able to answer questions related to buying or selling residential real estate in New York. There are many questions buyers and sellers have about the process of buying or selling a home that they are afraid to ask or that might seem too simple to ask. For instance: in a house, why do some doors open in and some doors open out?
