Question
I was wondering if you could help me.  Im looking to buy abandoned homes in my area.  I live in Illinois and the homes are located in Madison Co.  Also there is a home in St. Louis MO that I would like more info on.  I have been all over the place and cannot find anything.  Do you know of a site that I missed?

Answer
HI Jason,

Thank you for your question.

In order to find the owner of record for a property you should visit the local tax assessor's office.  You can be sure they will know who the owner is if there is one because they are collecting the taxes (or at least billing the owner of record).

Just go to the assessor's office and ask to see the reords for the addresses you are interested in.. They should present them on the spot.

Good luck!

Hans

I am able to answer questions related to buying or selling residential real estate in New York. There are many questions buyers and sellers have about the process of buying or selling a home that they are afraid to ask or that might seem too simple to ask. For instance: in a house, why do some doors open in and some doors open out?
