Buying or Selling a Home/collecting a finder's fee in new york

Question
Does one have to have a real estate license, broker's license, or some other type of license in order to collect a finder's fee for a real estate transaction? If year, are there any other types of fees an outside party could collect on a deal other than a finder's fee that would not violate any licensing requirements.

Answer
Just call up or sit down in the office of a REAL ESTATE attorney and ask. I cannot say for sure, for New York. Some places call it a bird dog fee. Some require that you ONLY introduce the agent to the buyer or seller BUT DO NOTHING ELSE. In that case you may receive a reference fee.

But like I said, talk to a New York REAL ESTATE attorney to make sure.

I do wish you well.

Expertise

With more than 41 years as a real estate broker, I can solve most any problem presented. If I can`t, I do my research. Problems with mortgages, trust deeds, foreclosures, odd ways of conveying titles. Most any good Realtor can answer questions satisfactorily, but I answer questions that most cannot. Also, ask about my hard-copy newsletter, The Landed Gentry. It can also be sent to you via PDF.
