Buying or Selling a Home/about a deed to a home

Question
My husband lived at home and saved his money till he was twenty-six. Many years ago he bought our house just before we got married and put the title in his own name. Is there a way we can change the title now to be in both our names? Is this something a real estate agent could do for us?

Thank you!

Loretta

Answer
It depends on how you want to hold title, Loretta, but it is very simple to change title from husband to husband and wife. Husband can sign a warranty deed (or grant deed, depending on the state you're in) to husband and wife as joint tenants, or as tenants in common.

I strongly suggest you consult with a REAL ESTATE attorney to have it explained to you for your state. It should be very simple and not too expensive.

I do wish you well., Loretta.

With more than 41 years as a real estate broker, I can solve most any problem presented. If I can`t, I do my research. Problems with mortgages, trust deeds, foreclosures, odd ways of conveying titles. Most any good Realtor can answer questions satisfactorily, but I answer questions that most cannot.
