Buying or Selling a Home/can i fire my realtor and go with another?

Question
I called a realtor to show me a home three to four weeks ago and she wanted me to get pre approval for a more expensive home. So, I was unable to get approved, but she came over my house prior to that and had me sign some papers. She has never called or come back after I was not approved for a more expensive house and has not returned my calls. I want to go with another company and list my house, but i do not want to be stuck paying her for doing nothing?? She said she would wait until preapproval to list my house, so I do not think she has listed it yet...I do not want to use this woman, but I want to be fair...any suggestions as to how I can switch to another agent???

Answer
If you signed a listing agreement, you should have a copy of that. Is it on MLS? Have people shown it?
A buyers agreement has nothing to do with a listing agreement. Just call that lady and ask her for a copy of the papers you signed, the go with another company to list your home. If she says you have a listing agreement, ask to get out of it. Hopefully the broker will let you out. Do you need a referral for a good Realtor in your area?
