Buying or Selling a Home/found a home, what now?

Question
My wife and I found a home we like.  We called the realtor's number on the sign, he came out and showed us the house.  We are first time buyers and have no real idea what we're doing.  Do we have to deal with the realtor that showed us the house or can we use someone else?  I ask this because a friend of the family is an agent at another place and can help us along the process of getting a loan and such.
Thanks.

Answer
It's a matter of ethics, Wade. You asked another Realtor to show you the house, yet you are going to have a friend to write up the transaction for you. I am surprised you are not going back to the agent you gave you the courtesy of seeing the property.

Why didn't you have your friend show you the property if he is such a friend? You have a job for which you are being paid. You do the work and therefore you are being paid for it. Why should it be any different with a real estate agent?

I do wish you well.

With more than 41 years as a real estate broker, I can solve most any problem presented. If I can`t, I do my research. Problems with mortgages, trust deeds, foreclosures, odd ways of conveying titles. Most any good Realtor can answer questions satisfactorily, but I answer questions that most cannot.
