Question
My son bought a home with his now ex, who backed out of the wedding, and he is trying to sell it, but is having problems and his brother and a friend moved in to help with the house payment which is quite high, and they aren't paying him alot and his ex has been paying some, but doesn't feel she needs to pay anymore, she says it is against the law for his brother and friend to live their without him having a renter's license. Her name is still on the lease. Does he need a renter's license, I would like to show the B, if not. Thank you very much!

Answer
I don't know what state requires a renter's licnese for a private rental.  I won't say for sure that it is not required but having been in several states I do know that a licnese is not required for selling or renting if the person is not representing his or herself as a real estate agent.  It is not against the law to invite someone into your home and ask them to help out with the rent.  It is also not against the law to advertise a home for rent if you are a private party.  It is a silly as saying that a parent with a grown child living with them couldn't ask the child to help with expenses such as rent or utilities!  I think that the 'ex' needs to prove otherwise but unless it is some weird law in one state I haven't heard of, tell the 'ex' that she should get her facts sraight before she starts quoting the law.

Experience

Anyone who is in this business and who dedicates oneself to professionalism has continued to take classes and along with it,additional credentials, awards and honors. I can list a host of them, but my greatest accomplishments happen to be those of getting first time buyers (who didn't think they could afford to buy a home)into a home of their dreams. The look on their faces when I hand over the keys is worth all of the hard work.
