Question
I bought a mobile home a couple years ago and my name is first on the deed and title. My parents co signed and they are on the title and deed. Do I need to get them removed because I got a letter from the county assessor "denial of Homeowner principal residence". I would like to get this changed because now I am paying higher taxes because they have me as renting from my parents. But, I pay the taxes and the home payment and all the bills by myself. If I need to remove my parents how do I go about doing this. If I take them off and something happened to me would they get the house back. Also I live in Michigan.

Answer
Very simple Angela. Go to the assessor with ALL your paperwork to show that YOU are the true owner of the property and bring you cancelled checks to prove that YOU are the one who has been paying everything. That should take care of it. If not, I recommend you consult with a real estate attorney to smooth it all out.

I do wish you well.

With more than 41 years as a real estate broker, I can solve most any problem presented. If I can`t, I do my research. Problems with mortgages, trust deeds, foreclosures, odd ways of conveying titles. Most any good Realtor can answer questions satisfactorily, but I answer questions that most cannot.
