Question
QUESTION: Hi. I have a question about various jobs within real estate. I've looked on websites of large real estate firms in New York City and I see there are people who have titles such as VP of Development and Marketing, etc. Do you know if those jobs would be commission only like a realtor, or are they salary positions? Thanks in advance!

ANSWER: Hi Danielle;
Most of those jobs are salaried with bonuses.

QUESTION: Do people in those positions have to start off as actual real estate agents?

Answer
Hi Danielle;
It is difficult to speak for all companies.  Everyone has different requirements and job descriptions.  Some positions (and in most companies)are more administrative and require advertising or marketing backgrounds.  Some require business or even an MBA. It really depends upon the size of the company and the job.  However, in some of the jobs, there could be a requirement to hold a valid sales license.  I cannot imagine any of the requirements in the management or administrative jobs to require sales experience unless of course it is as a sales trainer or sales manager.

Experience

Anyone who is in this business and who dedicates oneself to professionalism has continued to take classes and along with it,additional credentials, awards and honors. I can list a host of them, but my greatest accomplishments happen to be those of getting first time buyers (who didn't think they could afford to buy a home)into a home of their dreams. The look on their faces when I hand over the keys is worth all of the hard work.
