Question
I am going to try to sell my house after using a real estate agent. My contract has expired, and I was wondering if I would be free and clear not to have to pay any commission.

Dear Eileen;
I suggest that you re-read your listing agreeement.  There is usually a clause that says that after the contract expires if you sell the home to someone who saw the listing during the time it was with this agent then you still owe the agent the commission for a certain amount of time after the contract expires (usually 60 days.)  If the buyer is someone who didn't see the home while it was listed then you are of course free to sell it without paying any commission.
