Question
I read a past response regarding selling items on Ebay and the Casio cameras. Being it is 9 months later, I thought you might have some advice on particular models. My needs are more refined. I am a jeweler, and will be selling things that shouldn't be melted down (close-up shots). Also household items what-have-you. Also enjoy photography (as a complete novice - ie. no training or classes)and will use this instead of borrowing my wife's camera! All outdoor scenery, daylight. Probably will not buy new (your advice here too)? new, reconditioned, used?) Just need a good reliable camera, user friendly, and hopefully under $200. ? Your thoughts appreciated. PS Ran across a fellow with a Casio up in Bishop Ca. a couple weeks ago. It had a best picture feature. Seemed quite user friendly. Didn't take note of the model #. Any brands, models you recommend? Regards, Tim

Answer
Sorry for the delay Tim.

I have several cameras that I use. Some of the Casio models do have an eBay setting that adjusts the camera for a best picture to be used in listings. I have one of those cameras and it does a decent job. For most of my listing photos I use a larger Kodak model that is on a tripod. I also use Trulight flourescent bulbs that are diffused. That may be overkill for you though.

For listing photos, pretty much any camera will do if you have good lighting. I would reccomend getting one of those photo cubes. they are a popup box made of white material that diffuses light. You place the items to shoot inside and adjust the lighting around the cube to your liking. There are some kits out there that have the lights and everything included for a modest price. Search for photo cube or photo tent and you should find them.

As for everyday photos, I've used the Casio, Kodak, Olympus... The one I use most right now is the Casio. Pocket sized, 6MP, large screen. It takes great pics. I bought mine from a Casio outlet store. It was refurbished and I actually got two of them for a little over $100 bucks. I tend to look at refurbished items rather than used since the manufacturer has tested them out before selling. It's a great way to save money and get something that has a warranty. Also, whatever you buy, be sure to check out Square Trade online. They offer three year warranties on items like this for a great price. I buy them on everything I purchase. If the camera dies and they can't fix it in a week, they give you the purchase price of the camera back.

I hope this helps and again, sorry for the delay.

Hi there! After being a member of the eBay "community" for the past ten years, I have decided to look elsewhere to sell my items. Ebay has, and will agiain in the next month, instituted rediculous policies and fee increases that are not beneficial to the small seller. They are positioning themselves to be another site such as Amazon and are forcing sellers to reduce or eliminate shipping charges (even when they must pay to ship items) as well as preventing the acceptence of checks or money orders as payment. This is all geared to improve eBay's bottom line. I will still be happy to help answer most any question you may have regarding the buying and selling experience on eBay based on my experiences. However, I am looking at sites such as ebid.net that are much more favorable to us small sellers and buyers. You may want to check them out as well.

Experience

I've been an active member on eBay for almost ten years. I started buying and selling as a hobby and turned it into a business that I ran from home for a time.

Education/Credentials
Nothing special here. Some college. Went to work in the computer industry when the PC was just rolling out to the desktops of the world. I'm streetsmart and self taught in most things I know. Especially with eBay and online selling.
