I have items to sell.  what do I do first?

Well you didn't really give me a lot of information. You first need to set up a eBay account. You just go to the eBay page and then click sign up. After that you go to my accounts and seller account. You need to set your account up for selling. After you set up seller account, you should set up a paypal account for free, this is how most people pay you. After you set all that up its time to sell.
