I've done Ebay listings before, but I have trouble getting my item into the correct category. This time I want to list a Backhoe under

Home>All Categories>Business & Industrial>Construction>Heavy equipment>Backhoe Loaders

Anyway, I can find a number for Heavy Equipment (3236), but if I click on that category I get a page with no category number I can find. So, how do I get this thing listed in the correct category?

From the directions you've given, I can see a probable problem.  You have not selected a sub category.  When I go to the Browse Category box on the SELL page, I find that same category:

Business & Industrial>Construction>Heavy equipment>Backhoe Loaders -
but when I click on Backhoe Loaders, I get a series of subcategories as follows (Subcategory number follows each listing):

Attachments (#41488)
Case (#41493)
Deere (#61558)
Ford, New Holland #61559)
Other Backhoe Equipment (#50902)

Either you are using an old list, or your screen needs to be moved to the right.  There is a slider bar at the bottom of the browse category area that you can click/hold and slide to see the final categories.

I hope this helps.

First, thanks for the response. I guess I'm a little slow about getting back to you. Currently I have my listing up as hoped for, but I still seem to be having some kind of problem. It goes like this...

I go in ebay, select sell an item, sign in, and get to step 1 of 5 in selling something. Next up I choose the Business and Industrial (a Main Category), and click on Continue. After that Ebay acts like I'm going to be shown another page, but then the transmission of data stops and I sit staring at a blank screen. No Slider Bar appears at the bottom of the screen.

No doubt I'm doing something wrong here, but I can't figure out what it is?

Answer
John,
All I can see is that you and I are clicking two different things.  Here are my clicks in order.
1) Sell your Item
2) Sign in
3) Selling Format (I select Auction and click CONTINUE)
Now we get to SELECT A CATEGORY.  If I understand your clicks correctly, this may be the problem.

What I see on my page are three large blanks.  First, upper right is a keyword search to find the category quickly. Ignore this.  Next is a long blank where you can click to use a category you've already used.  Ignore this.

Next is a set of boxes under BROWSE for CATEGORY.  This is hwere I click BUsiness Industrial. And this is also where you say you click CONTINUE.  This may be the problem.  When I click the first main category, I THEN WAIT!  The next sub categories will show up automatically in the next box to the right...  Then click the next sub category, and WAIT!  Then click the next subcategory, and WAIT!  When you get them all, as outlined above, you're set!

Lastly, if you know the category you want, you can just enter the number in the category number blank to the right, under Browse categories and above the brose boxes mentioned above.  Try both and good luck!

Expertise

I`ve been involved with Ebay practically since it`s inception. I`ve spent a lot of free time in helping people find the answer to problems as well as selling techniquest on the Ebay system. I`m more than comfortable with the Ebay system, it`s rules and policies and the why`s and wherefores of it`s day to day operation and the operations of both a seller and buyer.

Experience

Been a consistent seller on Ebay since 1997 and have been regarded as a 'source' for information on Ebay itself.
(Under Expertiese, it should be techniques, not techniquest...sorry bout that....)
