QuestionHi,
Thanks for the reply... I definatly set my mum up with the chat rooms...
With regard to the book, I looked on amazon for the most recent edition (the july 2005 editions are too far away) however the raitings dont appear that great...

Hello,
I set my mum (age 50's) on ebay a few months ago and since, shes picked it up extremly well... Although she is a techo-phobe, she has been able to use a digital camera, scanner and even photoshop to produce web images...
when she got her 200th raiting i bought her a reward - a ebay book which she read within a few days...
she's now nearing 300 raitings and i wondered if you could recommend any ebay books or other items to help ebay sellers which would be suitable for my middle aged mum...?
thanks very much for you help,
regards
rob

You don't say which of the many ebay books you bought for her, so I hope I'm not making a duplicate.
The one and only book that any ebay member should consider when thinking of books is Jim Grifith's Ebay Bible. Jim is a ex Ebay employee with the full blessing of the Ebay Company in his writings and information. He has insider tips and knowledge that comes also from dealing with Ebay users. (Make sure you get the updated and most current bible, as they change frequently.)
In addition to books, I recommend she take time to hang out in some of the chat rooms where odd questions are answered by seasoned veterans. The Ebay Cafe as an example, if full of users like your mum who not only love to sit and wile away some time in conversation, but also can be a vast untapped reference for those pesky ODD questions that pop up for which Ebay has no set answer.
These can be accessed by going to the Site Map, and looking for the Community Pages.
I hope this helps.
AnswerYes, that's the book I was referring to, but it would seem by your reference that your mum has surpassed whatever information Jim has placed in the book.
Yes, the reviews tend to be a bit on the bad side, but most of those reviews were from people wanting exacting information, when this book is designed to be ALL ENCOMPASING. Most people looking for quick answers will hate such a book because they don't want to wade through all the information they've already learned through personal experience. It is most deffinately not the book for the person who wants 'tips and tricks'.
Since most of the books out there will not give that information, as 'tips and tricks' are very subjective and individual by choice, it would be wrong of me to recommend any other book. "Tips and Tricks" are the type of thing you learn from friends, from others who have discovered 'work-arounds' and formulated strategies using the existing Ebay system. For that, again, I recommend discovering the chat and discussion boards.
Thanks again!
