Buying & Selling Thru Ebay & Other Auctions/Selling on E-Bay
Expert: Marvinator - 2/13/2004
QuestionI have bought some items on E Bay that I now wish to sell, like clothing that didn't fit. Is there a legitimate source of information to help me through the process? Is a tool like E-Bay's Seller's Assistant really worth the $10 per month?
Buying is easy. But I have been hesitant to start selling. Some listings are obviously more impressive than others but I wonder if I will spend more to list an item than I would make selling it.
Thank you for any input or direction you can give me.
AnswerTake the time to read all the sellers information on Ebay. This can be found in one place, on the Site Map down the left hand column under SELLERS Info.
If you list properly, and take your time, you will probably sell your items, but you probably won't get what you paid for them. If you are prepared to get less, then you will have no problems. I recommend that you start your auctions under $10, and even below $2 if possible. THese auctions tend to get more bids. However, never list an opening bid at any price which you would not be happy to sell it for. If you only get one bid on a auction that started at $1.95, then you just sold the item for $1.95. YOur opening bid should be low, but high enough to Keep YOU from being dissatisfied should the item sell.
On such items as you described, stay away from the extras like bold listing, featured, etc. These will take away from your profit margin and probably won't help you in the long run. I recommend the extra things only for those sellers who will be selling in the long run and need to make their auctions stand out at first, to get regular customers. By starting your auctions "lean" you will spend less and can therefore afford to list the item 2 and even 3 times for more exposure.
