Buying a computer system/Memory

Question
QUESTION: My Presario (4 years old) has 160GB on the hard drive. It also has 2.10 GHz. Can you explain the difference? Is this enough for casual home use? I have quite a few family photos and have started downloading from iTunes for my 8G Nano. Not into gaming and heavy graphics.
Thank you

ANSWER: The difference between? I'm honestly not understanding the question, could you please rephrase?

QUESTION: Sorry about that. I started out with one question and then switched to another in my message. My daughter explained it to me. The 2.10GHz is the processor speed and the 160GB is the memory on my hard drive. I wanted to know the difference in those two numbers, specifically how much memory came with the computer. So my question was answered and thank you for your time.

Answer
One thing I'd like to interject, is that your hard drive isn't memory, its storage. Meaning you have 160GB of data storage (just as your iPod has 8GB of data storage). The actual RAM ammount of your system (think about it like this: if your computer was a person doing math problems, RAM would be the scratch pad, the processor would be the pencil, and the hard-drive would be the text-book) has is presently unknown to me (as you didn't mention it, nor did you provide me a model number, based on the age, I'd be willing to take a shot in the dark and say between 512MB and 1024MB of RAM).

As far as the CPU speed goes, thats just the operational clock of the central processor, and honestly doesn't mean all that much (especially with newer systems).

I have been an enthusiast of PC's for many years, and can answer questions about the purchase/use of a new computer or the purchase, installation, and use of upgrades for existing computers. There probably isn't a whole lot related to the home computer that I haven't seen over the years.
