Buying a computer system/laptop

Question
Hello. Im a graduate student that really needs to just break down and buy a laptop. However, I could really use some advice. There are SO many web sites and stores to pick from I dont have a clue what to get. All I want is a laptop with a wireless card because it is just going to be basically used as a mobile type writer. Do you have any advice on buying a bare bones system like this? Know of any good web sites with laptops for sale?
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Nick,

Without a lot of discussion about technical stuff, I will just say that that best noteboog deals, at the moment, cost $599.  After checking my favorite spots, I found a DEll Inspiron 1501 for thar price.  It has an excellent processor in it, 1GB RAM, and Windows XP (better than Vista, and runs faster with less ram.).  Check it out at http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspn_1501?c=us&cs=19&l...  Also, Dell support is hard to beat.
