Answer
Honestly for $5000 you can buy above and beyond the top of the line available in 2008. To accomplish everything you'd like, is around $750-$1500, to be quite honest. If you could specify which games it needs the ability to play (such as Crysis, Fallout 3, World of Warcraft, Counter-Strike, etc), that would give me at least some direction, as all of the other tasks are easily done by the majority of systems on the market.

One thing, does it have to use a 56k modem? Broadband internet has been the norm since the early 2000's, and its a much better complement for a modern system. The online viewing experience, for video/audio, will be terrible with 56k, while with a broadband connection, it will give you a much better experience.

Expertise

I have nearly two decades of experience in IT, computer repair, and related fields and will attempt to provide the most solid, brand-agnostic advice when it comes time to purchase a new computer, or upgrade an existing machine. I can answer anything from the seemingly basic to the downright complicated - and will do my best to provide this information in a clear and concise manner.

Experience

I have been an enthusiast of PC's for many years, and can answer questions about the purchase/use of a new computer or the purchase, installation, and use of upgrades for existing computers. There probably isn't a whole lot related to the home computer that I haven't seen over the years.
