Buying a computer system/Media center pc

Question
Sorry for such a simple question .  I want to buy a media PC all the sales people say I have to have a monitor. I would like to use my TV to run the media center from my TV screen instead of a monitor. (just like a Tivo box does)
Thanks for the help

Answer
Yes, that will work just fine, don't let the sales people bully you into buying something you don't need. If you have an HDTV it will connect with no problems, preferably over HDMI, although DVI and Component video are both good options too.

As far as an older TV, you'll only need an S-Video connection, although the resolution will be somewhat low (the TV is the limiting factor), which means the display experience might not be as good as you'd like it to be.

I have nearly two decades of experience in IT, computer repair, and related fields and will attempt to provide the most solid, brand-agnostic advice when it comes time to purchase a new computer, or upgrade an existing machine. I can answer anything from the seemingly basic to the downright complicated - and will do my best to provide this information in a clear and concise manner.

Experience

I have been an enthusiast of PC's for many years, and can answer questions about the purchase/use of a new computer or the purchase, installation, and use of upgrades for existing computers. There probably isn't a whole lot related to the home computer that I haven't seen over the years.
