Question
Hi..Iam the one you responded to about the computer that guy was selling that he puts together. I appreciate your quick response. But now I wonder what kind I should get new at the store. This computer is about 6 yrs old and slow as molasses. I really dont know what it has in it but Iam sure its not up to date. My question to you, is what should I be looking for as far as ram and all those things> Something that I can burn a CD on too. And one thats not going to cost me an arm and a leg, maybe around $700. Also one with a flat monitor not this huge thing that takes so much room up on my stand. I appreciate your quick response just like that last one, thanks

Answer
Well, all of the tasks you've described are basically child's play for a modern system, so more or less anything would work. If you have some more tasks to narrow it a bit, although, if your goal is general office work, email, browsing the web, and so on, more or less anything on the shelf will work. I would look at Dell and Acer, see what kinds of sales they've got going currently, Dell usually offers a promotion with some form of free or discounted display, which may be an attractive offer.

I have nearly two decades of experience in IT, computer repair, and related fields and will attempt to provide the most solid, brand-agnostic advice when it comes time to purchase a new computer, or upgrade an existing machine. I can answer anything from the seemingly basic to the downright complicated - and will do my best to provide this information in a clear and concise manner.

Experience

I have been an enthusiast of PC's for many years, and can answer questions about the purchase/use of a new computer or the purchase, installation, and use of upgrades for existing computers. There probably isn't a whole lot related to the home computer that I haven't seen over the years.
