Buying a computer system/Is AMD processor fine?

Question
I saw this ad in a newspaper about an Acer laptop...real cheap and the best part was that it was loaded with stuff like a 250Gb hard disk, 2Gb Ram and and a 512Mb VRam. I was interested in it until I saw that it had an AMD Turion processor. It said it was 2.0 Ghz, but according to what I have heard, AMD processors are really slow. So is this deal okay or would the processor significantly slow down the computer.

Answer
I'm not sure where you're getting your information, but AMD processors have no issues with performance, granted some newer Intel components can nudge past AMD hardware, however in direct comparisons the difference is generally negligble, I'd go for it, Acer is a reputable company, and AMD is a good hardware vendor.

I have been an enthusiast of PC's for many years, and can answer questions about the purchase/use of a new computer or the purchase, installation, and use of upgrades for existing computers. There probably isn't a whole lot related to the home computer that I haven't seen over the years.
