Buying a computer system/Restore Disk

Question
Do I need a restore disk when I buy a new computer? Is this something different then a windows cd for vista? What should I get with a new system?

Answer
This is a very vague question, can you elaborate more on the option you're being presented which is prompting this question? Generally a restore disk is some form of manufacturer "preload" environment, which includes basic drivers and other applications, however some vendors use the term "restore disc" interchangably with "operating system install disc". If the option is free, I would suggest adding it and finding out what the disc actually is upon delivery of the system, if the option costs money, I'd learn more about what it is (either by contacting the vendor, or supplying me with some background information on the question).

I have nearly two decades of experience in IT, computer repair, and related fields and will attempt to provide the most solid, brand-agnostic advice when it comes time to purchase a new computer, or upgrade an existing machine. I can answer anything from the seemingly basic to the downright complicated - and will do my best to provide this information in a clear and concise manner.

Experience

I have been an enthusiast of PC's for many years, and can answer questions about the purchase/use of a new computer or the purchase, installation, and use of upgrades for existing computers. There probably isn't a whole lot related to the home computer that I haven't seen over the years.
