Buying a computer system/Which laptop is right for me?

Question
Hi. I'm searching for a laptop but I'm not sure exactly what laptop is right for me. I want something not too big, portable, long battery life, stylish, very fast (I cannot stand slow internet), able to play computer games and movies without hiccuping, and loads of hard drive space. I cannot spend much over $1,000. I am currently leaning towards the Asus n20, but I would like to know if it would be right for me.

Answer
Well, most notebooks in the $500-$600 range will more than satisfy your requirements, excepting the bit on "slow internet", as this is not at all influenced by the laptop (or the computer being used in general), it is influenced by the available connection, in other words if you have 56k Dial-up, the internet connection will be slow, regardless of if you're using a Pentium II from the late 1990's, or a multi-million dollar Cray supercomputer.

The N20 would be an entirely suitable option, and if you like that option, it should suit you nicely.

I have nearly two decades of experience in IT, computer repair, and related fields and will attempt to provide the most solid, brand-agnostic advice when it comes time to purchase a new computer, or upgrade an existing machine. I can answer anything from the seemingly basic to the downright complicated - and will do my best to provide this information in a clear and concise manner.

Experience

I have been an enthusiast of PC's for many years, and can answer questions about the purchase/use of a new computer or the purchase, installation, and use of upgrades for existing computers. There probably isn't a whole lot related to the home computer that I haven't seen over the years.
