Question I want to buy a laptop with HDMI slot. Please advise best one for connecting to 48" TV to watch movie, etc on the TV. Do not want to pay over $500.

All I can say is that some do and some don't and you will just have to shop around. While you are shopping however, stay away from Compaq's, HP's, and eMachines. Also stay away from any laptop with an Intel Celeron processor in it.
Suggest you look hard for a Toshiba with your HDMI interface. They are hard to beat these days....
