Question
Could you recommend a notebook that has dial-up capability and can use AOL on it? My parents need a new computer but only use email and do an occasional word processing document.

Well, aside from ensuring your new purchase features a 56k modem, I see no other solid requirements for specialized hardware or software (perhaps "Windows only", due to the AOL client software's requirements). Something like this should meet your requirements:
