Question Hello, I am in the market for a new computer and need some help picking which one to get. My budget is about $3000. I have always used a PC, brands including Compaq, Gateway, Acer, and Dell. I have been hearing alot that Apple Macs are good because they dont usually get alot of the problems and freezes that PC's do, is this true? I need a computer to store music, pictures, surf the internet, do class work (Senior college student, papers, presentations, etc), and basic work (mainly on the internet). I want something that is smaller, as in under 15" for screen size. I also would like a laptop. I need something that will last. Previously, with the laptops I have had, they were obviously not built with quality. Little things would break down such as te battery connection or the screen would stop working all together. I need something I can rely on and not have to worry about repair costs. Something that is well built and will last and is worth the money. Since I have a large budget I want to make sure the laptop I buy will last me at least a few years. Any ideas?
Answer Hi Rachel,
First, I will admit they MAC builds a great box and is slightly better than a PC in the graphics arena. However, they are much more expensive, the software availability for a MAC is in the mud compared to a PC, and if they break, you will have to take out a second mortgage to fix them. As far as freezing, that is usually caused by lack of proper care.
Now on to your question. Suggest you pitch your old list of PC favorites and concentrate on Lenovo (IBM) and Sony products. In the notebook arena I would also add Toshiba. Start with the Lenovo site and look around. If you see something you like, of something you have a question about, come back. As you already know, the computer world is pretty vast - and a lot of what is right for you' is personal taste. While browsing, check ot the Lenovo 10" Netbook. It is my favorite new toy - and it will do everything!!
As you will see, Lenovo can get pretty expensive also. However, you can buy an awesome desktop system (including 19" wide screen monitor) for $400 - and a super Winbook for $330 if you know how to shop. I know you say money is not an issue - but we all like to get the best bang for our buck!
