Buying a computer system/HP Pavilion with xp home edition.

Question
How much should I pay for a hp Pavilion Ze4365us with xp home edition? It has a fried battery, a cracked case where it was dropped, and broken DVD drive. It has a 30gb hard drive and I think it has a 1.8 ghz processor, and if I did buy it would it be better to put windows 2000 pro on it?

Answer
I wouldn't buy such a system, at least not unless I was able to pay wholesale pricing. Based on your described condition, the system is more or less worthless as-is (generally unimpressive specs to start with (by modern standards), and extensive physical damage), as scrap/recycle to take parts from, it may have some value, if the screen still works.

Expertise

I have nearly two decades of experience in IT, computer repair, and related fields and will attempt to provide the most solid, brand-agnostic advice when it comes time to purchase a new computer, or upgrade an existing machine. I can answer anything from the seemingly basic to the downright complicated - and will do my best to provide this information in a clear and concise manner.

Experience

I have been an enthusiast of PC's for many years, and can answer questions about the purchase/use of a new computer or the purchase, installation, and use of upgrades for existing computers. There probably isn't a whole lot related to the home computer that I haven't seen over the years.
