Buying a computer system/Buying new laptop-is this good deal

Question
I have a Dell desktop(Dimension 4550 Series) and a Dell laptop Inspiron 4150 with windows XP that I bought back at the end of 2002 so both are 8-9 years old but they still work although they are slow and occassionally lock up and need to be rebooted. Staples is running a deal this week on a HP G632-340US 15.6" Laptop that is currently on sale for $379.98  And then I can get an extra $100 instant savings when you purchase any new HP computer and recycle a desktop or laptop with original windows XP. I am thinking I would be crazy not to do this right because it has to be better than what I am currently using right? I could get it for $279 or if they accept 2 computer recycles for 1 HP purchase could possibly get it as low as $179. We basically just need a computer to run QuickBooks Pro for our small home business and do other typical home office things like track personal finances with Quicken. Is that a good deal? I figure this HP has to be better than the old computers I have been using right?

Answer
While the machine may be somewhat faster, you could likely solve your performance issues by reformatting and re-installing Windows on your existing hardware. That said, I doubt Staples will accept both machines, but you could always ask. Honestly I would take the troubleshoot/maintenance route before I would buy new hardware - if you're going to replace a machine, replace the laptop with a laptop and retain the desktop (hardware repair and upgrades are much cheaper and more accessible for a desktop).

Expertise

I have nearly two decades of experience in IT, computer repair, and related fields and will attempt to provide the most solid, brand-agnostic advice when it comes time to purchase a new computer, or upgrade an existing machine. I can answer anything from the seemingly basic to the downright complicated - and will do my best to provide this information in a clear and concise manner.

Experience

I have been an enthusiast of PC's for many years, and can answer questions about the purchase/use of a new computer or the purchase, installation, and use of upgrades for existing computers. There probably isn't a whole lot related to the home computer that I haven't seen over the years.
