Question
Hi! I am looking into buying a notebook computer and am completely in the dark. I was wondering if you could guide me or suggest a notebook that fits my needs. I have a budget of just under $300, and basically need somthing that will meet my word processing (typing up a novel) and possibly music storage needs. Any suggesitons? Other things to consider? Thank you.

Answer
For under $300 you have very few options, if you're willing to purchase a desktop computer you may be able to get away with that budget, otherwise you're likely going to be looking at netbooks or similar ultra-portable devices - which will lack a full sized keyboard, large disk storage, and a few other features that would likely make extended usage quite cumbersome. My best suggestion would be to re-evaluate when a larger budget is available, something in the range of $400 to $450 would be more applicable.

I have nearly two decades of experience in IT, computer repair, and related fields and will attempt to provide the most solid, brand-agnostic advice when it comes time to purchase a new computer, or upgrade an existing machine. I can answer anything from the seemingly basic to the downright complicated - and will do my best to provide this information in a clear and concise manner.

Experience

I have been an enthusiast of PC's for many years, and can answer questions about the purchase/use of a new computer or the purchase, installation, and use of upgrades for existing computers. There probably isn't a whole lot related to the home computer that I haven't seen over the years.
