Question
Hi Karl,
First time I've written to you, well, I've decided to get rid of my 2002 desktop Compaq XP w/256 Ram & get a new computer, I was thinging of going to "FRY's", but if you know a better place, please let me know ?
I am hoping to get one for under $500, but it must have;
1)lots of Ram (3GB or better),
2)windows 7 (or better if exist),
3)office 2010 (or better if exist),
4)pdf capability, etc.
Either a new desktop or a laptop, whatever you suggest.
Any & All Help/Information You Can Give Me Will Be Thankful !
John

Answer
Hi John,

I just checked Fry's and they have a nice Lenovo (IBM) for $429 {http://www.frys.com/product/6831856?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG).  That would be my first choice.

Next, Dell has a nice Inspiron 370 for $339 {http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=ddcwbx1&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs after you upgrade the CPU.

Both need a monitor and I would either see what you can find on Amazon or get the 24 inch Dell offers for $229.

These both come with everything you need except Office.  I have seen the student version of Office 2010 for $89 on Amazon.

A laptop is another ball game.  The plus for a laptop is you do not have to buy a monitor and they take up less space.  My favorite brands are Toshiba and Lenovo and you can usually get the best prices at Amazon.  A big plus for Amazon is no sales tax and free shipping - plus their great service.  If you see something you like and cannot decide, come back.
