Buying a computer system/laptop

Question
Hello, I am looking to buy a laptop. I will be using it for Word, for browsing the internet, and for watching videos on the internet.

So what would a good choice for a laptop under $500, and also for $500 - $1000? I want it to be as lightweight and as thin as possible, but with good performance for the things I will be using it for.

thank you very much

Answer
Hello Jason

Thanks for posting your question, unfortunately it appears it waslost in the question pool, and I have only re-activated my account again after a lay- off and hopefully saved it from drowning !!

I can give you these choices on this link for under $500 US dollars, and agree with most of their recommendations

They are much of the same variety, but would be suitable for "light" use, definitely not gaming or high intensity applications like video editing etc.
For laptops over this amount, I recommend a solid branding like Toshiba , Samsung or Dell as they have quality components and relatively good online and warranty support.
Please see this link for choices

It is also good practice to go onto YOUTUBE and type in any of the Laptops featured, as actually seeing them reviewed and unboxed by experts will give you a better idea which to buy, how thin and lightwieght they are etc.
Remember that laptops generate terrific heat, sometimes over 90 degrees so get yourself a usb cooling stand for underneath on your desk or table and a gel coolmat for your lap.
NNegotiate hard for a bargain if you can, there is a "war" on at the moment between manufacturers and they will reduce prices for a sale.

Another way is to buy a "refurbished" higher spec laptop from a reputable recommended seller on Ebay or Amazon, as they are a lot cheaper and although have perhaps cosmetic marks etc, are usually in perfect working order ( make sure ther is a returns policy)
Hope that helps you
Best regards
Mark
