Buying a computer system/Buying

Question
Hi, I am in the market for a laptop and want to make the right choice. I travel a lot and want something for on the go. I do not play computer games, my main uses for computers are downloading music and video, converting video, browsing the internet, and word/spreadsheet processing. I was almost dead set on a MacBook because of all the good things I've read an heard about them. However, I want something with a reasonable amount of memory and a decent hard drive and to get that out of a Mac, you've to pay a lot more, where as you could get a Toshiba or Acer with higher specs, for less.  I am really not sure what way to go with this. I realize I have to pay for what I want, it's just that Mac requires you to pay more. Any suggestions?

Answer
I'd go with the MacBook, 1-2GB of RAM is easily enough, I'm not sure how much storage you need, but I'd suggest an external drive if you need quite a bit of disk space available, its more practical for mobility and cheaper than any internal solution you're likely to find.

Expertise

I have nearly two decades of experience in IT, computer repair, and related fields and will attempt to provide the most solid, brand-agnostic advice when it comes time to purchase a new computer, or upgrade an existing machine. I can answer anything from the seemingly basic to the downright complicated - and will do my best to provide this information in a clear and concise manner.

Experience

I have been an enthusiast of PC's for many years, and can answer questions about the purchase/use of a new computer or the purchase, installation, and use of upgrades for existing computers. There probably isn't a whole lot related to the home computer that I haven't seen over the years.
