Buying a computer system - What to buy

Question
Hi Heather, I have a NEC computer which is four+ years old and failing quickly. It is 500 mghz, 8 gb hard drive, and 64 memory. My DVD ROM is ruining some of my CD's and I am getting weird error messages as well as strange sounds. I am interested in a more powerful computer, much more memory, and strong on imaging and gameing, with a 19 inch monitor. I use Photoshop 7 and Microsoft Flight Simulator quite a lot. One unit I have been looking at seriously is the Dell 4600 series, but what specifacations do I need? What imaging/game card do I order? What type of monitor is sharpest? Should I get a wireless mouse/keyboard, the wire is driving me nuts, and would that give me more control when enhancing photo's? I am not all that familiar with the use, specifacations, or even the terms of computers, this NEC was my first computer. Heather, I need your help with the items mentioned here, and even your opinion on what brand is best. Thank you, regards, Ken.

Answer
Hi Ken,
First off my first choice would not be a DELL, I don't feel they are as reliable as some of the other brands on the market today. If you are willing to spend good money on your new computer then I would have to suggest a Hewlett Packard, they have the best photo programming around right now that comes w/ the computer when you purchase it. They also come w/ AMD proccessors which is the latest fastest out right now. You can get them w/ 120 gig hard drives and usually most computers only come w/ 64 meg on board shared video card right now but you can always upgrade that to 128 which is more then you will ever need. The 64 meg VD card will do fine until you start trying to play 3D games and that will only gray out some of the options that is offered by the game, it won't stop you from playing it. The monitor you will have to purchase separtly since most come w/ 17 in flat screen monitors now if you buy your computer as a package deal.
Good luck w/ your purchase
Heather
