Buying a computer system/laptop purchase

Question
I'm overwhelmed by the choices out there! My old computer just died. I'd like a new laptop but don't know what I really need. I use my computer for word processing, email, the Web, Photoshop Elements and Printshop. I never play games,or watch videos. Sometimes I burn CDs and play DVD or CDs occasionally. Someone told me I should get something with AMD Turion 64 technology so the computer wouldn't be obsolete so quickly. I'd like to be as conservative as is reasonable in price. Got any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Sally,

The simple thing to do is go to Dell.com and order one from them.

Other options are to shop around for specials.  I just ordered a new Gateway laptop with a dual-core Intel CPU in it for $599 directly from Gateway.

Other brands I trust are Sony, IBM, and Acer.

The AMD Turon is a great processor and havisg one of those in a laptop instead of an Intel will usually save you at least $150.

Under no circumstances do you want to buy a computer with an Intel Celeron CPU in it.  Also, stay away from Compaq, HP, and eMachine computers.
