Question
How can I get my laptop computer, Dell, to program in "C"? How do I go about doing that?
Install an operating system first.
If you chose Sun-Solaris (which I think is very good for developers) the compiler comes with it.
So, you don't have to install a compiler.
Same with Linux and all other unix flavors.
If you have installed MS_Windows then you have to chose a compiler and most of them are commercial.
So, an OS and a compiler are necessary to start with C programming. After that, get hold of a book and start reading and practicing.
