Experience I've been in the 3D/2D CAD industry for 10 yrs. & also had the opportunity/exposure to operate with several mainstream design packages. I've assisted many firms facilitate their 3D migration process.
Question QUESTION: I receive files in newer full Autocad versions (06 to 09)which are saved as a 2000LT version,( I have 2000LT). Noticed that I cannot "copy" & "paste" from recieved dwg to my other files.
Nor can I make a "WBlock" from those received files. I can put my blocks into recieved file, but create blocks out of it.
Can you help?
ANSWER: Joe, run an 'audit' w/ the drawing you rec'd. Then try saving or exporting the file as dxf (release 12). Open that file & explode entities. Try copy/paste this time.
Let me know.

QUESTION: JB,
I save file in other dummy folder. Ran audit. Saved as dxf in rel 12, exploded all...Wblocking and copy/paste do not work at all. Also tried same process but saved as 2000.dxf. again wblock/copy/paste did not work. EXPORT command did not work. NOTE: Orig. base was done in MAC-CAD this time, but all other times for past 2 yrs were not MAC-CAD, they were just newer full version releases of AutoCAD.
ANSWER: Joe, if the base is not a TrustedDWG, we'll have to use 'TrueView' by Autodesk:
download, install, run it & export the drawing to your current or the older 98LT format.
Lately, there's a lot of dwg variants in the industry & sometimes they become unreliable. TrueView can strip out these anomalies & hopefully restore the integrity of the dwg data. This software also allows you to open most current versions of DWG by exporting it to older releases.
Hope this helps...enjoy your weekend & let me know!

QUESTION: Jory,
I downloaded TRUEVIEW, installed it, unzipped it to run it, but dont know how to run it on the .dwg file that I saved as a 98Lt file.
Answer Fire up Trueview, click on 'DWG Convert'. From the dialog box there's about 5 clustered icons, click on 'add file...' & map to the questionable dwg base you rec'd. The software will quickly parse thru the dwg if any problems such as unreferenced files. Once the dwg is visible & selected, click on 'Conversion Setup'. You should have 3 pre-configured setup options: Std, convert to 2000, & convert 2004. You can create your own or modify the std setup. Change the 'File Format' & 'Actions' settings (select 'check & fix errors').
Click 'Convert' & test the new converted base...let me know.
