Experience I've been in the 3D/2D CAD industry for 10 yrs. & also had the opportunity/exposure to operate with several mainstream design packages. I've assisted many firms facilitate their 3D migration process.
Question Hello,
I just obtained a degree in industrial design. I was trained using Formz4 3d software and have a good understanding of nurbz, scanning in forms, and cnc output of forms, i have created in the program. Most employers have required knowledge of other 3d software such as solidworks, and pro E. Do you know were FormZ lines up with these other programs?
Answer Carl,
I think FormZ is more comparable to Maya or 3DS Max. A really neat way to show your ideas thru renderings. Solidworks on the otherhand, has the surface/solid modeling capabilities but w/ parametrics (all model depends on dimensions-a single part change can be propagated thru out the assy/dwg), part to assy to 2D drawing allows you to easily move fr design to mfg phase, analysis (perform quick stress study of your model), mold design tools (plastic/metal), BOM creation, data management (file revision histories), collaborate w/ clients in real-time or send non-editable full scale 3d vector file for review, etc...just to name a few features. Hope this helps, let me know!
