Question
To give you a slight explanation of how we translate the *.prt files, we first open up the *.prt file in CadKey. We try and clean out things like dimensions, tolerances, title blocks, etc--these are things that we usually have problems with in AutoCAD or that have changed. We Export the file from CadKey as a *.dxf. Then we open the file in AutoCAD, purge all the extra layers and blocks. Then we just take the geometry, redimensions, add title blocks, tables, etc. and save the drawing as a AutoCAD file.

It doesn't take much to go through the process, although we do this drawing per drawing.

We have some people using CADKEY 97 and others using CADKEY 7.2.

I am not sure as to if CADKEY can read *.lst files. I tried going through the help files, but was unable to find anything regarding this file type. Can you tell me what these files are used for?

Thanks,
Erik

Answer
Nice to meet u Erik.  The reason why I asked those questions is bec. Kenny asked me this morning if I could give some assistance regarding this CADKEY to AutoCAD translation, which I'm pretty sure you guys are handling just fine.  It sure is lengthy thou when you're doing this process individually.  I did a quick research and found an interesting article about batch translation in CK.  The only problem is, it works on versions 97-99 & we have 7.5.  Apparently, you can use the CDE Execute in CK to read a list (this file will consist of your *.prt library to be translated - can be created fr notepad but with *.lst extension). The procedure seems to be pretty simple, the hard part is probably generating the *.lst file.  But then again that could also be done thru batch dump process. Let me know if it works!
