Experience

Hi, I have been doing this spot here for some years now, and I like to think that I have helped a few people here and there, but due to advancing years and failing health, I'm afraid that I have decided that I can no longer carry on since I can no longer guarantee to be able to answer questions in a reasonable timescale. I should like to thank all the other experts and the users of this site for what has been an enjoyable and enlightening experience. I shall be terminating next Sunday 12th November 2006.

Subject: Re-sizing Desktop Monitor

Question
Recently, my 21 Gateway monitor went blank.  While waiting for a replacement, I moved a Dell 19" in its place.  But, I do not know how to make the Gateway HD and Dell 19" monitor compatibe, so I can read all of what is on the display.
Thanks much, Griff

Answer
Hi,
You should not need to reset anything, the display should automatically accommodate your replacement monitor. If you are getting all interferance lines on the screen, this is because you have the sync frequency set to higher than the new monitor can cope with, or maybe a highr resolution than it can use. So, boot the system and hold down the F8 key to get the boot menu, and select the plain VGA option. You can then reset to a resolution and sync frequency that your monitor can handle. Note that if you do go too high, because you won't be able to see the OK button to set the new settings, it will simply revert to the last setting that worked in 15 seconds or so.

Regards

Roy
