CD-ROMS & DVD Problems/dvd writer/player

Question
Computer: Compaq presario SR1830NX
Computer's age: 6 months
OS: WinXP
DVD RW: Lightscribe DVD RW using Sonic DigitalMedia Plus v7software with DVD43

Problem: Initially copied a Movie DVD with great results. When I attempted to copy another non-related DVD, ripping portion went fine, burning portion did not. When instructed to insert a blank DVD to write to (I did), computer attempted to execute, but quickly kicked out blank DVD (These are Dual layer DVD's I'm using). Attempted once more with another blank DVD. Computer kicked out disk again. Aborted further attempts and shutdown computer for the night. Came back next day to try again. This time DVD RW won't recognize any legit disk(s) (audio, data, or DVD). Checked Device manager; system supposedly working properly. I'm stumped. At this point I'll settle for disk recognition. Someone, anyone, HELP!

Answer
Hi Ray,
At 6 months old the system is still under warranty I suppose, so I'd make this Compaq's problem. It sounds to me as though there is a hardware problem with the Writer, but without some hands on testing, that's purely an educated guess. Whatever, your first port of call should be your supplier.

Hi, I have been doing this spot here for some years now, and I like to think that I have helped a few people here and there, but due to advancing years and failing health, I'm afraid that I have decided that I can no longer carry on since I can no longer guarantee to be able to answer questions in a reasonable timescale. I should like to thank all the other experts and the users of this site for what has been an enjoyable and enlightening experience. I shall be terminating next Sunday 12th November 2006.
