Question
Hi,
I had purchased a dining table from IKEA about 4-5 years ago and it is a real wood table.  It is not press wood.  They use a veneer paint that I was able to sand off and you can see the bare wood, but is there a way that I can sand lightly and use a good non chipping paint for this table? I want to paint it in solid black.  What is the best technique for painting this table and it look nice?  Please help!

Answer
Hi Miguel, the best technique would probably be to spray the table with either an enamel or lacquer finish, but you should be able to get good results with a foam roller/brush technique. you can use a good quality latex, but i would suggest a clear coat for maximum durability. Sand well down to 220 grit, and use a good grey tinted primer underneath, the foam rollers take a little getting used to, and they work best when thoroughly saturated with paint, but they can give you a nice smooth finish with a little practice. Hope that helps, post back if need be- Best of luck- Greg
