Question
Hi there Eileen.  Just wanted to see by chance if you know a good answer to this.  Can I cover an old desk that is solid wood with Formica?  If I had someone do it professionally what does that usually run?  I'm at a loss with this one any & all help is much appreciated.  Thank you for your time.   : )

Answer
Hi Nicole
Nice to hear from you.
Well Formica is pretty thin so I guess this would be possible but what a job to cover the entire desk.
What about just doing the top and adding a nice edging?
This type of work would be classed as carpenter work here in Canada, and you can hire a good carpenter here for 25.00 per hour.
The top I estimate would not take more than 3 hours to apply that and an edging (probably less)
Thats a starting point for you Nicole.
I could not possibly guess the time involved in covering the entire desk but it would be substantial.
Hope this helps
Regards
Eileen

Expertise

Hi..I can answer most questions about the repairing, stripping and refinishing of all your old furniture and wood items(the things we call antiques)I can give advice about what to buy/avoid at auctions/flea markets. I do not give appraisals on antiques.

Experience

I have been refinishing antiques for the past 30yrs. While I have taken several courses over the years,I have found that "hands on" learning is the best teacher. Perhaps I can help you avoid some of the mistakes I made while learning.
