Question
I recently purchased a new dining room table and six chairs.  I do not like the new, existing upholstery on the chairs and just today purchased new upholstery fabric.  My question, can I upholster over the current fabric (since it is clean and new).  Also, do I need to scotch guard the new fabric?  Thank you so much (my first project of this nature).

Answer
Hi,

Great question,  yes you can upholster right over the existing fabric since it is new.

Scotchguard is an excellent product and will help if something is spilled so great protection, certainly for dining chairs.

One hint; when you apply the new fabric begin by placing a temporary tack or staple in the center of the front, then the center of the back then the center of each side.  Then work the fabric toward the corners beginning with the front, you may have to place a small pleat on each corner.

I hope you have fun with your new project, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have another question.
